For those of you who have moved recently, you know that developing an effective moving and/or storage plan is key, while executing it, makes moving done easy. We also know that we would not wish this process on anyone. So how do we clear our mind and maintain a sense of humor…easier said than done you say. I know, I know, we have all done it too many times, and the process really stinks. And everything about moving causes our stress levels to go beyond what we are normally accustomed to, much less capable of enduring. I personally can attest to the anguish and frustration that ensues. Having said that, I always try to maintain an understanding approach, and bring a sense of calm to the process, because our potential clients frequently arrive already stressed by the mere thought of moving, as do we all.Knowing most who are in the process of moving have already developed that deep hatred for everything to do with this business (too most of us, moving is just like going to the dentist), I try to anticipate their frustrations, and have a readymade solutions to the simplest of problems. I also try to break the ice, as early and often as possible…here is an example of how early in the process it starts:
During a recent call to our office, I am asked if our portable storage PODS where available, and when they can be delivered. I start by informing them that we do not have any PODS available. After a long pause, and then I say: "but we do however have UNITS, from UNITS Mobile Storage of OC", when do you need it. Just in case that is not taken with a little salt, I explain that we always correct people who call UNITS by our competitor’s name. I further explain that our competitors’ have been around forever, and their name is generic for portable storage, just as Xerox is to copy, or Kleenex is to tissue. Even with people who know us, this happens frequently. I go on to explain that we are locally owned and operated, and when you call us, you are speaking to the business owners who resides and works in the area that is being serviced (not a call center out of state). This means that we can put you on our calendar immediately, and deliver your UNIT when you need it. Not just down the road when it is convenient for us to bring it to you.
